Health and Safety

Hoglets has a clear statement of intent regarding health and safety and is committed to the safety of all attending children. A site risk assessment is in place and all Forest School activities have a risk/benefit assessment in place.

The site Risk Assessment will be carried out before each half term and a check made at the beginning of each session. A risk/benefit assessment will be carried out for individual activities if required. All risk assessments will be carried out by the Forest School Leader and stored in the Forest School handbook.

Safeguarding Children, Confidentiality and Hoglets Forest School

Hoglets Forest School recognises and is responsible for every child's protection and confidentiality. Hoglets has effective and sound procedures in place and a competent workforce able to respond to the needs of the children. The Forest School Leader will carry a mobile phone and ensure that the children know the bell protocol and Forest School boundaries. A trustful relationship has been established between leader, adults and children. The children feel safe and confident to discuss any needs during their Forest School sessions.

Disclosure and Barring Servive (DBS)

Rachael Deavin has an up-to-date DBS check. All adults assisting or volunteering at Hoglets will have an up-to-date DBS check.

A copy of the DBS certificate is displayed on the Hoglets site or is available on request.

Equal Opportunities

At Hoglets we feel every child is special and equal. All children will be given the same opportunities and experiences to fulfil their mental and physical potential. Staff will support every child's imagination and play pathway.

Children will be given time to reflect on and discuss their experiences whilst at Hoglets.

Cancellation Procedure

Cancellation of a Forest School session will be the responsibility of Rachael Deavin and will only be cancelled if Rachael Deavin is unavailable due to serious unforeseen circumstances or particularly bad weather. The session will be rescheduled or refunded.

First Aid, Emergency and Serious Incident Procedure

  • All injuries will be dealt with by the Forest School Leader, Rachael Deavin, who is a Qualified Paediatric First Aider.
  • Children with minor injuries will be given appropriate first aid on site by the leader. They can continue the session if able or they can be accompanied to a quiet area to recover. Parents will be contacted if necessary.
  • Emergency services will be contacted in the event of a 'threat to life' or serious injury. Delf End Farm Forest School site is accessible to emergency service vehicles.
  • The remaining children will be accounted for and brought under the charge of the leader or assistant adult. The Forest School bell will ring and all children have been informed that this means they must return to the Forest School muster point.
  • A record of the injury and how it was sustained will be recorded in the incident book. The incident will be reported to the parent / carer.
